Sunscreen in Miami: the only 3 rules that matter
There are 200 sunscreens on the shelf. You don't need a complicated system. You need three things, every day.
There are 200 sunscreens on the shelf. You don't need a complicated system. You need three things, every day.
Rule 1: SPF 30 minimum. SPF 50 is better here. Anything labeled lower is essentially decorative under Miami sun.
Rule 2: Broad spectrum (UVA + UVB). UVA is the aging ray. Without broad-spectrum protection, you're protecting against burning but not aging or skin cancer.
Rule 3: Reapply every 2 hours outdoors, every 4 hours at a desk. Most people apply once at 7 a.m. And call it a day. That's 8 hours of zero protection by lunch.
Mineral (zinc, titanium) vs chemical: both work. Mineral is better for sensitive skin and infants. Chemical formulas feel lighter under makeup. Our office sells both. We don't push one brand because there are 5 good ones at every price point.
The one trick everyone misses: apply to ears, lips (with SPF balm), the back of the neck, and the tops of your hands. Those are the four spots where skin cancers show up most often in South Florida.
